Lagniappe

Langniappe:
Pronunciation: 'lan-"yap, lan-'
Function: noun
:a small gift given a customer by a merchant at the time of a purchase; broadly: something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure
Taken from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

Lagniappe is a word used commonly in New Orleans to mean "a little something extra." This page is full of those extra little somethings.

I have been posting updates to my website of every nature to the blog, but it is my intention to link to the tutorial and other shared-knowledge posts here.

Flying! is a "game" that i put together basically to take advantage of the utter coolness of maps.google's satellite view.

The Interactive New Orleans Satellite Map is a page that i put together when the Google Maps satellite view first came out to put my new floating divs technique to good use.

People come from all over the world to see the Mondrian Randomizer.

Better than that is this second, related random composition generator.

Then there's this one that i call Windowpanes.

There's also the car game, based on the game "Rush Hour" by Binary Arts. This is a great game that's much more difficult than it looks at first.

this is your basic mouse-tracking scroller, but rather than follow the mouse pixel for pixel, it slides smoothly to a stop. quite a nice, nuanced effect. download it and check it out... it takes surprisingly little code to make this thing work quite nicely!

dropdown list

i don't even know that i should call this file a tutorial-- it's more of a pre-packaged, functioning entity. the dropdown list "smart clip" that comes built into Flash is more trouble than it's worth. the code involved is more convoluted than Dreamweaver's rollover javascript. (in other words, there's a lot of unnecessary _stuff_ in there.) you can copy/paste this dropdown list right into your flash movie and, as long as you put one variable on your _root timeline, everything with work like a charm! the code is all very well commented, though, for those of you that want to look into how it works and not just abuse me for my generousity.

this is an equally easy to follow tutorial on making objects scroll vertically based on mouse position (using an invisible movieclip)
